Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Mark 6:31

“July 18. Today I spent the whole morning in the vestry, to procure a quiet season. This has now for some time been the only way, on account of the multiplicity of engagements, to make sure of time for prayer, reading the word, and meditation.

July 19. I spent from half-past nine till one in the vestry, and had real communion with the Lord. The Lord be praised, who has put it into my mind to use the vestry for a place of retirement!”

George Mueller (1805-1898) in The Life of Trust (New York: Sheldon and Company, 1878) 103.

Today marks our last post from this amazing text at this time. I hope you have found inspiration from it.

For Mueller, the vestry became his place of finding solitude with God. What is your place to find solitude with God?

I find it quite interesting and insightful that a week of focusing on the life of trust culminates with finding such a place.

Mueller was an ordinary person through whom God did extraordinary things because he learned the life of trust.

But the key to remember today is that he learned it not in public but in private. If you want to grow in generosity, grow in your trust in God.

If you want to grow in your trust in God, find a quiet place to rest and cultivate real communion with the Lord. Everything flows from there.
