For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
1 John 2:16

"These three truths produce rich results in the lives of fully surrendered followers of Jesus. Here are the lies, the promises, and the way forward.

Lie #1: The lust of the flesh—you will never have enough.

Promise: “I am the Good shepherd, and in me, you have everything you need.”

Way Forward: Living Under the Ownership of God

Lie #2: The desire of the eyes—you must pursue all that you desire.

Promise: “Abide in Me, and you will bear much fruit, fruit that will last.”

Way Forward: Living According to the Promises of God

Lie #3: The pride of life—success is found in all that you can produce and achieve.

Promise: “If you lose your life for My sake, you will find the true life I came to give you.”

Way Forward: Living in the Will of God

This is where the deeply contented life is experienced in all its fullness. By believing and living out these truths, we effectively destroy the weapons of scarcity and fear the enemy so successfully uses against us. We are set free to live for Jesus. The enemy is left powerless.

We will discover together the radical truth that God is the sole source of our contentment, and in Him, we have enough. I am urging us to cultivate a heart that embraces this truth, believes this truth, and lives with its assurance.

Deep contentment is the fruit of the heart that believes it has enough because it trusts in the One who is enough and desires the One who is more than enough! Contentment means being at peace in the storm, calm in the chaos, and trusting in God’s supply when paucity and fear claw at the door.

Contentment is a direct result of faith that God not only will supply all our need, but that He has. It is a present tense affirmation that the promise has been fulfilled and is being fulfilled every day in all that we see and experience and steward.”

I am excited to read this book. It’s brand new. It just released this month. Find it here. This marks the second of seven posts from it.

Today's header photo features the hands of a group of fully surrendered followers with whom I got to interact on my travels this week in Central Asia. We prayed together for God to strengthen their hands to apply all they learned.

We all know the world is filled with fear and scarcity thinking. And the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life aim to keep us locked in bondage.

With three simple and yet profound points, Rodin points the way to freedom, contentment, and joy: We live under the ownership of God, according to the promises of God and in the will of God.

To live under His ownership marks the pathway to freedom. Remember, we are slaves to whatever we think we own. Only under His ownership are we free.

To live according to His promises points the way to contentment. We only locate peace when we depend on our faithful God for everything.

To living in the will of God is about grasping life as God designed it. We get this when we surrender and live as a steward. He gives us joy now and eternal joy later!

Re-read the three promises. Thank God for them. Ask Him to help you live according to them.

And say a prayer for me today as I fly home from Central Asia.
