Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done.
Proverbs 19:17

“When I am in need of anything, I fall on my knees and ask God that he would be pleased to give me what I need; and he puts it into the heart of someone or other to help me. Thus all my wants have been amply supplied during the last twenty-six years, and I can say, to the praise of God, I hate lacked nothing

My dear wife and my only child — a daughter twenty-four year old —are of the same mind with me. Of this blessed way of living none of us are tired, but become, day by day, more convinced of its blessedness.

I have never thought it right to make provision for myself or my dear wife and daughter, except in this way; that when I saw a case of need, such as an aged widow, or a sick person, or a helpless infant, I would use my means freely which God had given me, fully believing that if either myself, or my dear wife or daughter, at some time or other should be in need of anything, God would richly repay what was given to the poor, considering it as lent to Himself.”

George Mueller (1805-1898) in The Life of Trust (New York: Sheldon and Company, 1878) XXXIX.

This week we turn to one of my favorite inspirational figures, George Mueller. I love him because of his passion to care for others while trusting God to care for him.

What can we learn from him about trusting God as the week begins?

The very best way to care for yourself and your family is to give yourself to attending to the things of God and those in need and forget yourself.

God will "richly repay” you and care for you and your family beyond comprehension.

This is one of those lessons that you only figure out as you live it out. And once you do, you know that in the care of God you will always be amply supplied.

Choose this path, as Mueller says, to the praise of God!

Notice that the source of blessing for Mueller was that God put it on the heart of “someone or other” to help Him. God works through people in this way.

Can you recall a time when God put it on your heart to help someone? Or can you recall a time when God moved someone else to help you?

Pause to thank God for His matchless care.

And if you have needs, fall on your knees and share them with the Lord. Or if you have ample supply, ask God to show you someone who may need your help, and give generously.
