The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?" “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
2 Kings 4:1-7

"The ultimate power of money is its ability to keep us focused on what we do not have. The love of money and a scarcity mindset are conjoined enemies to the contented heart. If we are to cultivate such a heart, we must turn the power of money on its head. Nothing neutralizes this power more than a steward’s heart and a contented spirit. The moment you believe in your heart that what you have is enough, you slay the enemy in his tracks. When you focus on what you do have with gratitude and trust that God will supply all of your need, always and forever, you are set free. When God is enough, you will always live in the abundance of God’s provision and the lavish outpouring of His grace toward you."

I have enjoyed this new book. It just came out this month. Find it here. This marks the sixth of seven posts from it.

Today's Scripture is the scene between the widow who was stricken with the scarcity mentality. Notice what Elisha the prophet said to her.

“How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?"

If you are an apostle and prophet (my calling) or a pastor and teacher, please take note of these words and share them widely. If you are an elder or deacon in a church or a board member of a charity, memorize them.

“How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?"

Most of the people you serve struggle with the 'not enough' messages of the world. They think they need money to save them from debt or difficulty.

To help them and to neutralize the power of money over them and to free them from the 'not enough' scarcity mindset, you do well to have them focus on what they have.

When people focus on what they don't have, it goes like this. They reason what they cannot do because of what they do not have, so they either do nothing or expect someone else to act.

When instead, we offer to help and we ask them to focus on what they have, everything changes. Only as we put to work what we have faithfully, does God supplies. We experience the 'enough' reality as we use faithfully what we have.

What do you have in your house that you could put to work.

If you have financial resources, give them to your church, charities that address needs God cares about, or to Generosity Monk to help these messages get to the world.
